About
About Mend Petal
Mend Petal is a free plant clinic on the web: tools for working out what is wrong with a houseplant, naming a pest, keeping holiday plants blooming and checking whether a plant is safe around pets.
Where the advice comes from
Every cause, check and fix comes from university extension services and botanical institutions: the RHS, Missouri Botanical Garden, UC IPM, Clemson, Penn State, NC State, University of Minnesota, Iowa State, University of Maryland and University of Illinois Extension. Pet toxicity comes only from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control plant pages and Pet Poison Helpline. Each page lists its sources with links, all checked on 3 November 2026, and where the sources disagree the page says so.
How the tools work
Everything runs in your browser. The checker, pest key, bloom planner, rebloom calendar and plant search work out their results on your device, and the calendar files are built there too; nothing you tick or type is sent to a server. There are no accounts, no adverts and no cookies.
The site counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or track you across sites and never receives what you type or pick in the tools. The privacy page has the details.
What it is not
Mend Petal is general information, not medical or veterinary advice and not a substitute for a plant specialist who can see your plant. If a pet may have eaten a plant, call your vet or a pet poison helpline; the numbers are on the pet safety page. If a person may have eaten one, call a doctor or your local poison control centre.
Watering schedules, pot sizes and light needs are covered by our sister site Sunny Sill, and grow lights and feeding maths by Plant Porch; both are linked in the footer.
